Altius Review

30 Dec

Last week Jen and I had our annual holiday dinner and we went to Altius up on Mt. Washington.  I’ve been wanting to get here for the last two months so I was psyched when Jen suggested it.  The chef is the same one who opened Bistro 19 in Mt. Lebanon (which is a place I really like).  Also, there are so few places that I go to that are somewhat dressy, so I had an excuse to wear a dress – and I’ll take any excuse to put on a dress during these winter months that I can get.  You should see what I have planned for New Years Eve – it’s sequin and I’m not going anyplace fancy 🙂

I really liked Altius, my meal was really fantastic.  Jen and I started with the beet terrine.  It was thinly sliced beets, both red and golden, layered and it was served with fried (amazing) goat cheese, fennel and an orange vinaigrette.  I love beets generally, but this was really out of this world.

For my main dish, I went with the pork chop.  First of all, it was huge, like I ate about 1/3 of it there and the rest fed me two more times.  But it was done perfectly.  And it was served with Brussels sprouts and these potatoes with gouda.   They had me at the accompaniments.  I really liked the sprouts, they were just a little crispy.

Jen ordered the chicken which had this amazing maple glaze.  Her dish also came with sprouts, but they were done with a ham hash.  Of course my kind friend let me have a bit of her meal and I loved loved loved that maple glaze.

After all of that, I’m sure you are shocked that we got dessert.  And not just one… no we each got our own.  Because I am awful at this blogging business this year (new years resolution is to get back into it), I can only remember what I got!  I got this amazing bread pudding with rum soaked raisins.  I really was only able to eat about half of it, but it was totally worth it.

So here is a picture of Jen’s, even though I don’t remember what she got!  I remember it being really, very good.

Overall I really liked this restaurant and look forward to going again.  The bar area was awesome and I can absolutely see going there for drinks one night.  I’d definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice evening out.  It wasn’t cheap, but it was a great dinner.
